25.4 Feature Enhancements

Bring your preferred AI model into Logi Symphony to power a conversational analytics experience. The platform automatically connects to your databases, queries across multiple data sources, and delivers answers to your data questions.

Symphony has a new look and feel when you upgrade to v25.4. In addition to a new color scheme, we've streamlined and updated multiple areas and workflows to simplify how users and administrators access work in Symphony.

• Select a home page to present to your users, allowing them to work directly with the content and data most relevant to their needs: Visual Data Discovery or Managed Dashboards & Reports.

• Users can now switch more easily between Visual Data Discovery and Managed Dashboards and reports, and access other features easily from the refreshed main menu.

• Tenant and user workflows have been updated to allow a smoother workflow when creating or updating tenants and users, including setting attributes and default home pages.

• Group privileges are easier access in our redesigned work areas.

• We have expanded SFTP set up and management options at the instance, tenant, and user level. Define attributes directly in Symphony, using user attributes or tenant attributes as needed, or simply for the entire instance depending on your organization's needs.

• Customize your Symphony theme with our revised and expanded theme options.

Source creation is now easier than ever with drag and drop source creation. When you create a new source, simply drag the entity or entities you want to use from the Connections tab or Files tab directly onto the Source Creation work area.

Create joins quickly and easily using the visual interface. Select an entity and view its properties in the Properties panel as needed.

The Cache and Global Settings tabs have moved to the top of the work area; select these tabs to define and update your fields and settings at any time. Define a Custom SQL type entity creation directly in the work area.

Set up dynamic columns in reports and scorecards that repeat your design horizontally for each data value.

After you add data to columns, you can enter a selection mode you can use to define what elements should repeat for each Column value in the group’s Data Analysis Panel.

These repeating elements are included both on screen and when exported in PDF format, with the data wrapped for readability.

We have expanded sharing capability to self service reports. When you allow sharing of dashboards in your environment, your users can now easily share self service reports as well.

Users can share self service reports with other users and established groups in your instance, or within a tenant quickly and easily.

The workflow for tenant creation and updates is now easier to manage and maintain. Create and update tenant information in one work area.

Set up the Reply-To Email and Sender Display Name in this expanded work area as a tenant attribute if needed for sharing dashboard reports and self service reports.

Additionally, you can return reserved tenant attributes using the new endpoint, api/account-attributes/reserved/. See API Updates.

Call data using the OData API and return in column format when you use a custom query parameter that includes response_format=compact. See API Updates.

Use the dashboardTag and sourceTag entities to filter dashboard and source lists using the related API or in an embedded environment. You can filter using the operators IN, NOT, !=, <>, AND, and OR.

Use dashboardTag in conjunction with Dashboard Interactivity settings to serve and exclude appropriate dashboards to users based on your filter expressions.

You can now define a join operation when you add two structures to a data cube, join two data cubes together, or join a data cube to a structure. The new property Join Operation in the Relationship dialog reflects the type of join you define.

We have expanded aggregate metric function support for all connectors. Use the listagg function, for example, as Listagg(fieldname, 'delimiter') to concatenate the fields values, separated by the defined delimiter.

Pushdown is supported for multiple connectors:

BigQuery, Impala, MySQL, MemSQL, Oracle, PostgreSQL, Redshift, Snowflake, and SparkSQL.

You can now enable a time bar option in your environment that allows the time bar slider to snap to the closest interval of the defined granularity for a specific source. This is disabled by default: enable the new server-level variable, timebar-snap-to-interval to use in your environment.

It's now easier to see what data cube the parameters inside a data cube originated from, allowing you to more quickly select the appropriate parameters from appropriate sources.

In this release of Symphony, you can now connect your Managed Dashboards & Reports data to your Trino resources using the new data provider in data connectors.

Updated encryption options are available when using Microsoft SQL Server for the application and warehouse databases.

Hierarchical filters now automatically save your filter configurations, preserving them across sessions.

• Expanded or collapsed nodes are now saved and restored when you return to the dashboard.

• Admins and dashboard owners can set permanent filter selections and expansion states as the default view for all users.

• Your non-owner users can explore filters freely and use "Save As" to create their own dashboard copy with customized settings.

Export data you are previewing when you work in a data cube for further analysis or verification. With the Data Preview window open for a selected transform, select the Excel option from the Share button in the toolbar.

Relationships can now be created that identify how to join data cubes with other data if the configuration setting to Allow Automatic Cube Joins is enabled.

Users with appropriate permissions can specify a "Reply-To" and "Sender Display Name" for the emails generated for your scheduled reports and scheduled dashboard reports.

This flexibility allows you to direct replies to your selected recipient and include a user-friendly sender display name for ease of use by your end users. If not defined, this defaults to the system values.

Additionally, the Accounts API has been updated so you can retrieve and define all tenant configuration information, including SFTP file drop and STMP details.

Exporting a report to Excel now replicates the positioning and styling of its text content as seen in the browser and PDFs, including headers, value formatting, and various visual properties.

When you upgrade to this release of Symphony, you can offer self service report functionality to users of your embedded offerings in your environment.

Use the new class EmbeddedReport to embed and provide self service report functionality to your users.

You can optionally use the appropriate event listeners to create a more dynamic and responsive experience.

• You can now schedule self service reports to be sent as a one time report or on a schedule to internal and external users.

• Improvements to report generation allow you to adjust font size on your exported PDFs.

• The self service report microservice now operates independently with fail-safe mechanisms, eliminating dependencies on other microservices for autonomous processing.

• Expanded security and governance controls allow you to configure appropriate access for your users. Select the Permissions icon in the Reports Library to refine access for users on a per-user basis, or as groups, as you do in the Dashboard Library.

• Self service reports that include group headers can now include up to ten column headers in each group of a group-structured report.

• The default column count for simple and grouped reports you schedule to send in PDF format is 15, unless you specify otherwise.

Drag and drop items such as table columns in the Properties window to reorder them to any position rather than clicking to move them one position at a time.

Parameter values can optionally be placed in their own sheet or tab when exporting dashboards to Excel.

Easily apply the same text formatting to multiple measures at once using the Apply To Other Measures option.

Visualizations in dashboards contained inside of another view such as another dashboard can now be maximized to fill their container using the right-click/context menu.

You can enable a new configuration setting, Frozen By Default, to require users click to opt into updating data from the data source in visualizations after each change affecting the data when editing.

Drag and drop a new stored procedure on top of an existing one in a data cube to re-wire/replace it.

Power users and developers can customize the parameter values for their own notification's recipients without needing to be an administrator.

We have introduced a number of flexible improvements to the Visual Data Discovery interface. When you work in some pop-up modals, you can resize some common columns to see more of the information about the resources you are using. Use your cursor to grab a column header break to adjust as needed.

These pop-ups include Dashboard Alerts, Dashboard Sharing, and Permissions for Sources, Visuals, and Dashboards.

You can now customize the label color for the combo chart in Visual Data Discovery if you do not want to use the themed color. Disable Inherit from theme in the Colors sidebar menu, then select the color you wish to use.

Methods for JSON serialization and deserialization are now available in data scripts such as script for Generic Web data connectors and data cube calculated elements.

25.2 Feature Enhancements

We have expanded what you can create and export using Symphony's Self Service Reports feature in Visual Data Discovery. This includes:

• A new report export format Excel (XLSX) for simple, grouped and group structured reports. This includes conditional formatting, data formatting and aggregation support. Select Data (XLSX) as an option when you export a report.

• Group Structured reports have been enhanced to support data formatting at the visual level in addition to current support at the source level.

• You can now elect to disable Self Service Reports at install time by making the appropriate changes to your YAML file. Self Service Reports are enabled by default in the default Symphony environment configuration.

  • This configuration allocates 1 CPU and 6Gi for this service; expand as needed.

  • The microservice supporting self service reports provides improved processing for larger data sets.

Note: If you are upgrading to v25.2, the minimum Core and Memory requirements have changed to support the new self service report microservice and features. See Install Symphony - Windows and Install Symphony - Kubernetes.

We have added a robust Reports Wizard to Managed Reports to help you quickly create simple reports, or add groups of data to your existing reports.

When you create a new report, the Report Wizard opens to walk you through selecting, filtering, and styling your data. Alternatively, close the wizard to create your reports manually, or select the Report Wizard at any time while editing a report to add a new group of data in tabular format.

Table visualization accessibility has been improved including full keyboard support for navigation, selection, and other interactivity in Managed Dashboards and Reports.

We have updated a number of Visual Data Discovery connectors in this release. Updated connectors include: Oracle, PostgreSQL, the Real Time Sales (RTS) connector, Redshift, and the Snowflake connector. See their respective connector pages for more information.

We have added support for a new connector in Visual Data Discovery, OpenSearch. See Manage the OpenSearch Connector.

New built in data providers for MongoDB and Elasticsearch have been added to Managed Dashboards and Reports module.

We have added a way for you to enable or disable the auto refresh of data in your single source dashboards in Visual Data Discovery as needed.

• Dashboards that include filter snippets from a single source have a new setting, Published Filters.

• When available, select the Published Filters icon on the dashboard and enable or disable the Auto Apply Filters toggle.

• Auto Apply Filters is enabled by default: any changes you make to your filters are reflected immediately.

• If you are working with several filter snippets and a large data set, you can disable Auto Apply Filters to prevent Symphony from refreshing the data until you either enable Auto Apply Filters again, or select Apply in the Published Filters Setting work area.

You now have the option to hide some or all of the metric function labels and time zone labels in your Visual Data Discovery table visuals and pivot table visuals. Select relevant show/hide options for individual labels using the table context menu in the column header.

• Your Symphony home page has a new, streamlined look. Access your Visual Data Discovery and Managed Dashboards and Reports workflows quickly and easily, alongside Logi AI in appropriately licensed environments.

  See Home Page.

• The file References dialogs contents now take up all available vertical space with a single scrollbar when necessary.

• The Symphony helm chart now includes a broader, more comprehensive set of service-specific affinity configuration options you can use to define your environment. See the helm chart for more information.

• Symphony now supports the installation of custom and non-standard Python packages using the helm chart.

• You can now add formulas to data cubes to reuse them across multiple metric sets and calculate their results after aggregation. See Process Result.

• Clickable parts of visualizations are now indicated on mouse hover in edit mode for easier access to their settings in the Properties window.

• Access more regions of table visualizations visually using new icons you can hover over and then click to access their property settings.

• Optionally add the current date to the beginning of export file names rather than the end and customize the date and time format.

When you configure Java Virtual Machine (JVM) options for your Visual Data Discovery connectors, do not use the additionalJavaOpts section in the Helm chart, as it sets the _JAVA_OPTIONS environment variable. This global variable is not reliably visible or predictable across environments.

A new configuration setting, Account Locked Logon Failure Reason, is now available in new and upgraded Symphony environments.

The default setting of Unrecognized Credentials is applied to new installations of Symphony. Locked out accounts see a message that the credentials were not recognized without exposing the existence of the actual account.

Alternatively, select Excessive Log On Failures to return a message that too many logon attempts have been made. This is more suitable for environments that support only internal users to aid in troubleshooting log on errors. If you upgrade to this version of Symphony from an earlier release, this is the default setting until you change it.

You can now switch the layout of a Visual Data Discovery dashboard between Responsive and Free-Form Layout.

When you enable Free-Form Layout instead of Responsive layout, you can adjust your dashboard layout with finer-grained control. Adjust your widget sizes and placement, then save your changes to the dashboard.

You can now select a Delivery Method for your scheduled dashboard reports and scheduled reports in Visual Data Discovery to include email and SFTP in environments where you allow external users to receive these scheduled deliveries.

Use the event listener composer-source-copied to listen for and react to the event of copying a Visual Data Discovery source in your embedded environment.

25.1 Feature Enhancements

Starting with the release of Symphony v25.1, you can easily add and manage all licenses in the Administration homepage. Navigate to the Licensing work area to add or edit new licenses as needed. To access and manage previously installed licenses, see Apply a License Key.

We have added a number of user interface updates to simplify the use of Symphony for you. These include changes to the interface to allow you to engage with your environment more easily, improved navigation with accessibility updates, and more.

• You can now select to present your data in table visuals as wrapped from the table context menu. Select the table context menu icon next to the heading name, and select Wrap Column or Reset Column Wrapping as needed.

• Expanded information and settings are now available in the Properties window when you create or edit components in Managed Dashboards and Reports. Options are grouped in collections of settings you can navigate and use to update and change the properties of an object.

• This Properties window has been redesigned to improve usability, provide more consistent organization, and be more approachable to new users. The locations of some properties have changed: for example, the Layout and Text tabs are now categories under Design, and the Actions category is now a tab. To change an element's display name, double-click it directly at the top of the window. If you have difficulty finding a setting, the related documentation articles contain updated guidance. Categories are collapsed by default, however you can use their existing double-click or right-click shortcut options.

• Users who navigate Symphony using keyboards with or without a screen reader have more metadata available for various toolbars, buttons, and menus.

• Some expansion icons that were formerly arrows are now more [...] icons. We have also added more information for users in information boxes, as well as included more tooltips that allow users to understand items in context of their project.

• The Hidden and Locked properties are now dedicated icon buttons next to the title in the Properties window for objects in the Managed Dashboards and Reports module.

• Information boxes have been added in various locations of the Properties window to help explain and navigate between different properties for objects in the Managed Dashboards and Reports module.

• Hover over a table's header, row and cell style properties to see the corresponding area of the table highlighted in a tooltip for objects in the Managed Dashboards and Reports module.

When you create a dashboard in Managed Dashboards and Reports, you can optionally add a specific domain URL recipients can use to navigate to the dashboard. If you do not add a specific URL, the default URL is sent.

You can now enable scroll options for Visual Data Discovery visuals that previously did not include axis ordrill down options. Depending on the visual type, the Data Zoom options may include horizontal, vertical, or both scroll options. This includes:

• Line Trend: Attribute Value Charts and Multiple Metric Charts

• Bar Charts

• Box Plot

• Combo Chart

• Donut

• Floating Bubbles

• Heat Map

• Pie

• Waterfall

Enable or disable as needed in the Data Zoom section of the Settings sidebar menu. Changes to the ruler used in a visual will reset the scroll settings, and the minimum and maximums are not saved.

We have added support for the cast function in OData API filters. You can now cast numeric fields (integers, longs, doubles, decimals) to strings in filter queries, enabling string-based operations such as eq, startswith, and contains.

Tenant administrators can now select and change the author for a dashboard in the Dashboard Library. The new author must have appropriate permissions for the dashboard to be able to access the dashboard.

We have expanded Self Service Reports with several features you can use to customize reports more effectively by creating group based banded reports.

• Add column fields to the grouped header

• Include grouped details in the details section

• Apply aggregates and conditional formatting

• Include report headers and footers

• Insert images in your report header

• Export grouped data reports in PDF format

Group reports are structured to repeat for each unique record in the groups you've added to the report. You can include up to 8 columns in the group header and up to 15 columns in the group detail section of the report.

You can now schedule reports to run and be sent by email at frequencies that meet your needs.

Accessibility improvements have been added throughout the Symphony user interface. These include updates to access for keyboard and screen reader users on the logon page, main menu, toolbar, and various dialogs available in view mode in the Managed Dashboards and Reports module.

Importing and publishing project files has been updated to better handle renaming of items in certain cases.

The Snowflake Connector for .NET has been upgraded to version 4.3.0.

Clicking the link in an email to unsubscribe now asks for user confirmation before the request is processed.

An OpenAPI specification document as well as a new Swagger UI are built into the application to help you use the REST API. Access Swagger at the path /swagger under the root of the Managed website.

New password policy configuration setting Required Password Unique Characters can further enforce strong passwords.

A new Helm chart property allows for customizing the initial logging verbosity of the microservices before they are first used.

Certain non-sensitive fields such as host and port number are no longer masked in installation logs.

Generate and manage reports using Symphony's new self-service reporting capability inside the Visual Data Discovery module. Create customized reports using a table visual, adding a report header and footer as needed.

Additionally, you can apply filtering, conditional formatting, and grouping to your data. Apply aggregate functions on different fields to produce the report you need. Export easily as a PDF, including all of your customizations.

You can now install an instance of Symphony in your Windows environment. Supported versions include Windows 10, Windows 11, Windows Server 2016, 2019, and 2022.

We have improved your experience and expanded the capabilities of hierarchical filters, making data sets of all sizes more easily navigable.

• Use the expand and collapse icons to more readily find parent and child nodes.

• Select and deselect items and nodes easily.

• The new Expand All option allows you to expand and collapse the entire data set quickly to make or review changes.

Several new data connectors are available or have been updated to allow your users to connect to a wider range of sources.

• Amazon Simple Storage Service Connector (S3) now supports the S3A protocol. See Manage the Amazon S3 Connector.

• You can now add the IBM DB2 Connector in your Visual Data Discovery module.

• We have added support for the Business Central Connector. See Manage the Business Central Jet Connector.

We have updated our accessibility support for content viewed in full screen mode or embedded in your own application. These updates include features such as keyboard support, accessible names for more non-text content, and use of aria-label.

Symphony Developer Playground is a hosted, embedded Playground environment that allows you to explore a space dedicated to our low-code, rapid development tools crafted for software teams. Dive into white-labeling options, grab functional code samples, and discover straightforward embedding features. Start effortlessly creating interactive analytics embeddable content that suits your brand and business needs.

Define the columns you want to include in a table visual when you create the visual. After you have selected your source and the table visual type, select to include one or more columns quickly and easily. Select Create Visual to generate your visual. If you select no columns, all columns are included by default.

You now have the option to export and share dates as an ISO 8601 date in XLSX format. This preserves any formatting you have applied to your data while allowing Excel users to recognize and manipulate the exported dates as dates in Excel.

In Managed Dashboards and Reports, add placeholders to SQL Select expressions that can be set via parameters.

You can now use Array type columns from PostgreSQL or Vertica in an SQL Select configuration for filtering purposes.

You can now create content in Managed Dashboards and Reports that meets accessibility standards more easily by adding and associated accessible names and taking advantage of various improvements to built-in filters and components.

Password-protect your exported PDFs from Managed Dashboards and Reports, and optionally require this password protection when exporting.

When logging on using .NET or REST with administrator credentials and setting EffectiveAccountName/EffectiveCredentials, optionally also apply CustomAttributes or set AccountProperties to create or update an account.

Access data cube storage run time details by calling GET /DataCube/StorageInfo/ to get StorageInfoData or getStorageInfo in JavaScript to get StorageInfo.

Symphony24.3 Feature Enhancements

We have made it easier to share your Visual Data Discovery dashboards with your users in Symphony. Now you can optionally share dashboards with established groups and users in your tenant at once, making the objects available to users within those groups and tenants easily.

You can now utilize chatflows created with Logi AI to generate SQL statements in Visual Data Discovery. Use these generated statements as-is or customize to meet your data retrieval needs. Additionally, you can use the new marketplace Logi AI SQL chatflow template to quickly get started.

Symphony now includes a natural language tool, Doc Assist, for all available modules in insightsoftware hosted environments:

Select a help icon in any available work area in Visual Data Discovery, Managed Dashboards and Reports, or Logi AI to open Doc Assist. Ask a question about the work area you are in and Doc Assist returns answers and suggestions based on your request, including links to more expansive documentation as needed.

The Managed Dashboards and Managed Reports modules, along with the core of Symphony, now supports .NET 8. When you upgrade from a previous version of Symphony, your environment is updated with this support as part of the upgrade process.

You can now upgrade and migrate your Dundas environment to Logi Symphony. Users, groups, tenants, connections, projects, and other objects can be used in your updated environment, combined with the benefits of Visual Data Discovery and, optionally, Logi AI.

You can now use a Redis cache as part of your Symphony environment. Deploy a Redis subchart using the helm chart, then select the RedisCacheProvider when you configure your custom cache provider.

Optionally set up a report's table of contents for use with a PDF viewer's navigation options without necessarily including them directly in the report's contents.

You can now select Australia as a regional preset when you define regional settings for your users.

Symphony now uses PostgreSQL 16 by default for new installations. You can now upgrade to this version in existing installations as needed.

IBM Db2 support has been expanded to include using the gateway to connect to an on-premise database from the cloud.

Click to clear all filters at once in a data cube filter transform.

Use your PDF viewer's navigation options when viewing a slideshow exported to PDF to navigate between the included dashboards and reports.

Symphony24.2 Feature Enhancements

We have enhanced the user experience for source creation by introducing visualization of data relationships for schemas.

• Navigate to the Relationship tab for a specific connection, then select a schema from the available schemas to view or edit the relationships for each.

• Select a schema and view the relationships in read only mode for your data sources in the Entity Details work area for that data source.

• When you’re working with joins, view available joins and create new joins as needed. Recommended joins and joins you add are visible in the join relationship visualization; from there you can draw new joins according to your specific needs.

• Visualization is available for multiple connection types. For Postgres connections, Symphony provides tables and default database relationship data from the connection.

Symphony now includes an SAP S/4HANA connector. See Manage the SAP Hana Connector.

You can now upgrade your Logi Composer to Symphony. On upgrade, your users, groups, and tenants are imported into Symphony.

Users need to update their passwords the first time they log in: see Migrate from Logi Composer to Symphony for preparation and migration details.

• Many menus, icons, and names have been updated throughout Symphony and the modules available to you in your environment to be more in sync with their associated tasks.

  • For example, some context menus have been reorganized, making it easier to find the tasks you wish to perform.

  • Drill down into presented data by selecting Drill-down in available menus, replacing the use of Zoom in context menus, panels, and other work areas. Other uses of Zoom in your software unrelated to examining data in greater detail remain unchanged.

  • Changing the look of a visual or visualization is now done by selecting Re-visualize from the appropriate menu or other work area. This replaces the use of the term Visual Style in the user interface.

You can now customize your Symphony environment more easily on a per-tenant basis. After upgrading to this version:

• You can define custom attributes and default views for users on a per-tenant basis.

• Assign users to tenants more easily, populating tenant membership across all modules in use in your environment.

• Tenant IDs are now included in the screenshot service logs.

• Tenant membership is synchronized across all installed Symphony modules.

Previously a beta feature, this feature is now available in all Symphony environments where you use Managed Dashboards along with Visual Data Discovery.

You can now create data sources in Visual Data Discovery data cubes or data connectors. Establish a connection to an available project in Visual Data Discovery then use to create a data source. After you have created the source, use it to create a visual in the Visual Gallery or in a dashboard.

Note: This feature is no longer in beta and can be used in production environments.

When you add a table of contents to your reports, you can select each entry to navigate to the content in view mode. Symphony generates navigation links and a document outline when exported as a PDF.

Exporting raw or visual data from visuals created in Visual Data Discovery to XLSX format now outputs numeric and date fields in number and date format.

Symphony now supports the RSA asymmetric key signing algorithm when using JSON web token (JWT) authentication.

Select the Symphony modules you prefer to install during installation: all modules, or exclude Logi AI, Managed Dashboards, or Visual Data Discovery as desired.

We have expanded change management for breaking changes by adding your warning tags to sources or other objects, even if there are no other top level dependencies to that object.

See Import or Export Sources .

When you migrate and import objects into your environment, you can define a matching strategy that uses multiple approaches to reviewing objects to determine how to handle them in conjunction with your selected insertion strategy.

Matching strategies are processed in order, proceeding to the next and the next if a strategy fails.

If all strategies fail, the object is imported and tagged with your selected tags to help you find affected objects and manage any issues.

These attributes are used to define the matching strategy and warning tags to use for import.

The data display of line charts in Symphony now supports rendering of large data sets more quickly by halting the calculation of values and percentages for data lengths over 130,000.

When this threshold is reached, the Display as stacked option is disabled. Work with Support if you need to change the setting of data-threshold from the default of 130,000.

You can now can select a schema as needed when you create or edit manual select transforms that use supported data connectors.

• Create a parameter for the session schema selection and make it public so viewers can change the schema on the dashboard.

• Use custom attributes to filter and bind the selection options to a user or group.

Enable Allow Session Schemas for the appropriate connectors to make this option available in your environment.

Supported connectors include Oracle, Postgres, Redshift, MemSQL, MySQL, and Exasol.

Symphony 24.1 Feature Enhancements

You can now deploy and use only the Visual Data Discovery module in Symphony. Use the capabilities of this module as an entire deployment, installed directly or hosted as an SaaS with insightsoftware.

Users can use Symphony directly, access their data in an embedded environment, and belong to one or more tenants as needed.

Groups management is now a streamlined experience in Symphony. Create groups in the Symphony interface, and make privilege changes to groups in each module as needed. You can also add users to multiple groups at user creation time.

When you create, edit, and update groups, the changes are shared across all of your licensed modules in your environment, and within applicable tenants.

System Administrators can manage all groups and users in groups. View all groups across all tenants by selecting Groups from the main menu: searchable tags for each group tell you which tenant is associated with each group.

Tenant Admins can manage users and groups associated with the tenants they administer. View all groups in a tenant by selecting Groups from the main menu while you are working in that tenant. Switch between tenants as needed to view that tenant's groups.

If you are a member of multiple tenant groups that use Visual Data Discovery, you can switch between tenants to see a list of the groups for each tenant.

We have expanded the filter capabilities to present data more securely to your users. Filter values can be shown in masked format if you want to filter based on confidential data.

• To enable, disable Filtering for fields in a data source for one or more data columns on the Fields tab of that data source.

• Next, set the Value and Display fields in your filter snippets based on your needs.

• When you view tool tips or hover over fields that have Filtering disabled, you won't see the actual values. Instead, you will see a generic reference, such as a count of "filter values" or a series of asterisks ******.

Important: Applied filter values that later have Filtering disabled to not automatically mask or hide those fields. You must recreate the filter that uses these values.

You can now set and apply filters to filter snippets. Select a source to apply the filter in the filter snippet.

• You can now import and export visuals directly in the Visual Gallery user interface. Import and export one or more visuals in bulk. Import and Export includes any supporting objects the visuals are dependent on, such as data sources and connections.

• When you import dashboards, visuals, and sources, Content Distributor group members and other users with appropriate privileges can enable Share Default Access With All Users. When enabled, in the UI or as an API option, users in the tenants you selected for import can access to these resources immediately based on default access levels.

• View improved real-time import validation results, address errors, and suppress warnings for later handling with more options to correct issues in your environment.

• The import process now considers an origin.id when importing objects: it is stored for every imported object on the target system.

  • When you import using the API, you can select a matching strategy for reusing and updating objects. See API Updates for more information.

• When you select Ignore Warnings during import, a Tags field is added to the Import work area. Add or create tags to apply to objects that do not import cleanly.

  • If errors occur during import, Symphony adds the tags you select to affected objects.

  • Use these tags to find the dashboards, visuals, filter snippets, or sources you need to fix.

• You can also create or add tags for items that do not import cleanly when you import via API.

We have added a simplified lite dashboard to your Symphony environment for Data Discovery content. You can now embed a lite dashboard complete with its own interactivity settings, designed to get your users up and running quickly and easily.

Users can create dashboards with the default visual format as a table visual. Once created, users can:

• Edit the visual's fields and settings, and optionally change the visual type to an available visual type.

• Select an available visual type if the data source does not support a table visual, then edit the visual as needed.

Available visual types include: Table (default), Bars, Bars:Multiple Metrics, Donut, KPI, Packed Bubbles, Pie. Customize this list further in your embed code as needed to add or remove other visual types.

You can now opt to suppress time zone labels in the SymphonyData Discovery user interface.

After upgrading to this version, you can update the Data Details of your time fields in a data source and suppress the labels. Select Not Specified instead of a time zone to hide time zone information in the user interface and when users export data.

Report editing features in the Managed Reports module are now controlled by a set of Application Privileges. Enable or disable (allow or deny) as needed for users and groups to give you the flexibility to offer your users a simplified report editing experience.

The new application privileges are: Report Advanced Dockable Windows, Report Advanced Toolbar Options, Report Data Visualizations, and Report Styles & Themes.

We have expanded and improved multi-tenancy in Symphony to make it easier to manage tenants, add users to multiple tenants, work with tenant and user content, and for users to navigate between tenants if they belong to multiple tenants.

• Add new users to multiple tenants at account creation time.

• Easily edit users, changing their tenant status, admin or system admin status, member of the Global User group, or content distributor.

• Users can switch easily between tenants from the main menu, and verify what tenant they are working in. The tenant a user is working in is always at the top of their tenant list and indicated with a check mark.

• The minimum length for a tenant name has been removed. Symphony only verifies that the tenant name is not empty.

• System admins are listed with an Admin tag in the Name column on the main Users landing page. Only Global Users can be system admins, and show a Global User tag in the Tenants column.

• Sources created in the Visual data discovery module are visible only in a tenant where it is created, and optionally to other tenants as assigned.

Present a comprehensive view of the information in your environment in one place, utilizing the full capabilities of Symphony. You can now include any data discovery object in your managed dashboards to bring all of your data into Symphony.

Add existing dashboards or visuals as components to a managed dashboard, and edit the properties as you would for any component: adjust the main properties, the look, and the layout.

You can additionally add a component by selecting the (new) option instead of existing content. This lets users to work with available data to create a visual or dashboard in a managed dashboard and see data in a different context.

Select different interactivity settings for dashboard components as needed.

Creating tenants in Symphony has been simplified in this release.

Select Tenants from the main menu to create a tenant and tenant admin quickly and easily in your environment, create a project for your tenant, then define the project privileges and hide the <GLOBAL> project.

Use the new user attribute, ${User.credentials}, to pass the Symphony session ID (when working in Symphony directly) or trusted access token (in embedded environments) through a connection to a data source.

If this attribute is found on upgrade, the existing attribute is renamed to ${User.Custom_Credentials}, allowing use of ${User.credentials} as designed.

Visual Data Discovery 23.4 Feature Enhancements

With this release, Symphony transforms your approach to tenant administration and content creation and distribution among different Symphony tenants. Leverage the power of a centralized hub system administrators and content distributors use to push Visual Data Discovery content to your supported tenants.

Key Features:

1. A unified content area allows your content creators to create and distribute new content to multiple tenants easily. Create, modify, and effortlessly push dashboards and visualizations to different tenants. Seamlessly update existing content by pushing the changes where needed. If no additional tenants are added, the default tenant Visual Data Discovery is used. Visual Data Discovery replaces the company tenant.

2. Multi-tenancy enhancement. Streamlined tenant creation and content management means you can create tenants directly, then push the content you want them to see all from one place.

3. Updated Group Roles. You can now easily add users in a tenant to specific groups that allow these users to manage and create, share, and maintain content as needed.

   • Members of the Content Distributors group can create, maintain, and distribute content to any tenants.

4. Unified Administration. A new default user account, the system administrator wields the combined supervisor and admin capabilities. The system administrator can perform all tasks necessary to Symphony management. This change means:

   • The superaccount work area is renamed to Visual Data Discovery.

   • The default admin user is now the system administrator and has all supervisor user privileges, as a member of the Visual Data Discovery tenant.

   • The default supervisor user is no longer installed; add users to the Supervisors group instead.

   • Tenant Accounts are now known as Tenants in the user interface.

Streamline your content migration flow with the enhanced objects Export and Import Process:

• Benefit from the bulk import and export of dashboards and sources; select tenants to include at import.

• Choose an import strategy per object class — create a new version of the object, reuse the object, or update the existing version on the target environment while preserving permissions and IDs.

• View real-time import validation results, address errors, and suppress warnings for later handling.

Symphony now offers more robust breaking changes management when working with changes to data types and sources for fields or schemas in use by dashboards, visuals, and filter snippets.

When you make changes to a data source in use such as:

• Changing the data type of a source field, derived field, or custom metric

• Removing fields from inclusion in a data source

• Changing the schema in use in a data source

Visual Data Discovery returns a verbose series of warnings about making such breaking changes. Review the returned list of affected visuals and filter snippets, and then decide to abort the change or proceed by selecting Ignore Warnings. Once you have saved your changes, navigate to the affected visuals and filter snippets to update the field used by each.

This works with conditional formatting, and when changing between all data types.

Use the Data Gateway service to connect to your on-premise data sources from an instance of Symphony running in the cloud. Install Data Gateway on your local network and by configuring Symphony allow connection to the on-premise data sources of your choice.

Offset is now supported when you connect to the Azure SQL Data Warehouse (Azure Synapse) using the Microsoft SQL Server connector.

More search and select options are available when you add an existing Visual Gallery visual to your dashboards. Expanded search options means you can:

• Search for visuals by Type, Name, Description, Data Source, Tags, or Author.

• Narrow the visuals shown or returned in search by selecting a filter option: All, Favorites, My Items, or Shared with Me.

• If you search by tags, type, or data source, you can include multiple items in your search, returning all visuals that include at least one matching result.

Use the analytics capabilities of Symphony to generate descriptions of your visuals to Visual Data Discovery dashboards with a few simple selections.

Quickly insert a visual description in a rich text snippet widget that summarizes the data shown in your visual. You can add multiple visual descriptions in individual widgets, or combine multiple visual descriptions in one or more widgets.

Edit the snippet to change the format, edit the contents of the generated description, edit description variables, insert images, links, and more.

Configuration for Visual Data Discovery services are now available both by API or directly in the UI for users who are members of the Administrator or Supervisors groups.

1. While logged in as a member of an appropriate group, navigate to the Visual Data Discovery module.

2. Select Tools > Configuration from the main menu to open the Configuration work area.

3. Any service configured as available can be edited in this work area: select a tab for a service, make needed changes, then save your changes and restart the service to apply to Symphony.

Table visuals now support the inclusion of links to URLs or images in a table column. Select the option Format {field name} as URL to include a link to a URL or image by adding a URL with an interpolated value, such as http://www.website.com/${value}.

• If you link to a URL, the destination URL opens in a new browser tab when the user selects the field.

• If you link to an image, the interpolated image is shown in the table cell. Define height and width of the image as needed.

• Clear the image or URL by selecting the None option in the Format as URL work area.

Create filter snippets to filter by Hierarchy data type for the hierarchical data included in your dashboards. Select a hierarchical field to add to the filter snippet, then select an operator: equals or descendants of or includes to build the conditions for filtering the data.

• Equals or descendants of: Selecting the parent node selects all child nodes of the parent. Child nodes cannot be deselected.

• Include: Selecting the parent node selects all child nodes of the parent. Child nodes can be deselected as needed.

As with all filter snippets, you can search your hierarchical content defined in the Value Column to help you select and deselect the content to include.

We have expanded the use of content tags in Visual Data Discovery. You can now add tags to visuals, and use them to sort and organize content as you do with tags for dashboards and sources. Add a tag when you save or edit a visual in the Visual Gallery, or convert and add from a local visual from a dashboard to the Visual Gallery.

• When you import and export dashboards, sources, and shared visuals to the Visual Gallery using the UI or API, any associated tags are included.

• Sort and filter dashboards, sources, and shared visuals in the Visual Gallery using your tags; filter in specifically tagged items, or items with no tags to help you organize your content.

• Extend the use of content tags, filtering, and sorting to users working with embedded instances of Symphony.

Box plot visuals can now include groups and subgroups: add a subgroup to expand the depth of the information you provide in this visual type.

Use the new visual type, Sunburst, to display hierarchical data in a circle format. Display up to three levels of data, starting with the topmost hierarchical data in the center of the sunburst, with the secondary and tertiary levels shown in levels further from the center.

You can now easily export multiple sources and copy individual sources in your environment as needed.

• Export multiple sources: Select the sources you want to export in the Source work area, then select Export Selected Items. All selected sources are downloaded to your browser, exported as one JSON file.

• Copy a source: Open a source for editing, then select Copy Source. Enter a new Name for the copy of the source, and optionally a Description and Tags, then select Copy. The newly-named copy of your source is added to your data sources inventory, and you can continue editing your original source if needed.

Use the Sources API to send export requests for multiple sources, or copy requests for sources.

A new feature, Show Other, allows you show or hide data in several visual types normally hidden when you define a limit for your data.

For example, enable Show Other for a pie chart of data sorted into twenty five counties, with a Limit of ten. Eleven slices are shown: the fifteen other counties are grouped as a single slice, comprising the remaining data succinctly. Disable Show Other in the sidebar menu, or by selecting Remove from the context menu of that data point.

This feature is available in the Sort & Limit sidebar menu of several visuals:

• Bar charts
• Donut (single group)
• Pie (single group)
• Packed bubbles
• Scatter plot
• Tree map
• Heatmap (single group)

This release brings extensive updates to custom metrics. We have added time and time conversion functions, as well as a number of string manipulation functions to expand the range of possible calculations you can use in your environment.

You can now enable static legends for individual visuals as needed. If a static legend is available for a visual, enable or disable it in the Color sidebar menu. In embedded environments, this is configured at the dashboard level on a per-dashboard basis.
